On The Mound

The Boys of Summer are back at it in Arizona... one month from today is Opening Day!

Branching Out

The heavy snow sticking to the branches adds to the definition against a grey sky.

Frozen Buds

These lilac buds have been getting larger with the warm weather lately... it'll be interesting to see how they react to this weekend's snow. Warmer temps are supposed to be on the way, so we'll see if they decide to bust out soon!

Returns

After some time off to recuperate from an injury, I'm back... and so much for that resolution a couple posts back. Winter's back too, even though the weatherman says it's meteorological spring. Oh well, at least Mother Nature is giving me a reason to get out and start shooting again!

Drifting

The weatherman mentioned this morning that we are 12.5 inches behind last winter in total snowfall, having almost none so far this winter. As long as we don't get it all at once like last February's blizzard, I'm okay with that.

Characters

The sign was being changed at the Downer Theatre, and the letters and numbers going up were laid out on the sidewalk.

Theme Day: Photo of the Year 2011

Some of my favorite photos from last year were taken at Farmers Markets - the variety of colors, textures, and shapes made for some great opportunities. This large pile of radishes is a perfect example.

One of my resolutions for 2012 is to get back on the blogging horse and do a daily photo... a New Year's Eve setback may prevent that, but I'm going to try!

Today's photo was taken at Brewers Spring Training in Arizona this past March. Tickets for the 2012 Spring Training games go on sale this coming Monday, December 5th. It hasn't even snowed yet, and I'm already thinking about baseball...

November Theme Day - Fences

It was a beautiful day for early November today, and I dragged the bike out of the garage for one more ride, but I hope it's not the last. The Hank Aaron Trail splits and travels along the north and south side of the Marquette University athletic fields in the Menomonee valley. This photo of the fence around the fields is taken from the north side, along the canal.

Nightscape

I wanted to get this posted last night, but the internet spirits weren't cooperating. We went downtown last night for dinner, and made a quick stop to take some photos for Halloween. I saw the lights of the buildings reflected in the river, and thought it was pretty neat.

Pumpkin Patch

The folks at St. Mark's Church on the East Side are having their annual Pumpkin sale, which runs for the month. Seeing all the pumpkins and squash out on the lawn in front of the church makes for a really great scene, especially in the dark.

Champs

A beautiful fall day made for an opportunity to get out on the bike and get some exercise and fresh air. I rode by Miller Park to see the huge champions banner that was hung there last week, and it is quite large. We're guaranteed to have at least one more game at the stadium this year, and hopefully, there will be many more! Go Brewers!

Today's photo is part of the sculpture near MIAD that I've shown in previous photos, but it's so full of details, you see something new every time you look at it. I like this gear because it's not polished clean - it still shows the dirt and grime from years of use.

Sweet

It's not all fruit and vegetables at the Farmer's Markets... this vendor was selling honey, and some of it was stored in an old soda case.

Spicy

A long holiday weekend gave me a chance to get to a Farmer's Market, something I don't normally take the time to do. The colors, shapes, and textures were a great opportunity to grab the camera and get some photos to place in the kitchen, like these peppers waiting to be taken home. Many markets go through October, and OnMilwaukee.com has a great list of them.

Millions Served

The Brewers didn't have a great series against the Cardinals this week, but the weekend looks to be getting off to a good start. The seats at Miller Park have been filled to capacity many times this season, and more than three million tickets have been sold. With a month left, things are getting interesting!

This might look like the back of a normal sized chair, but it's actually a huge chair in a large room at the Art Museum.

Trying to get back in the saddle and on schedule this month... wish me luck!

Currach Race

The events at Irish Fest this weekend included races on the lagoon in traditional Currach boats. Seeing the teams row across the lagoon with the sailboats on the other side of the peninsula was a little disorienting.

One More Cast

Back from our annual trip to the North Woods, and I brought home a postcard... A fisherman on the lake tries to stretch out the last moments of daylight. It was good to get away for a few days and just relax.

Wooly

In the Discovery Barn at the fair, kids can get up close to the agriculture industry and see some animals a little closer to their size. These lambs were just one example of the new and recently born babies on display.
