Under The Table

Under The Table by Robert Therrien invites you to walk around the huge pieces of furniture and remember what it was like when you were small and everything else was really big. It's currently on display at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

Super Sales

Here's yesterday's photo, a little late...

With the Packers playing in the big game next Sunday, the opportunists have sprung up all over town, filling the local need for all things related. This one is in the parking lot at State Fair Park, visible from the freeway.

Five Card Studs

One of my favorite local bands is the Five Card Studs, a faux-Vegas Lounge act. Anytime they get together, fun is guaranteed to be had.

This window is in one of the bridge tender houses on the Milwaukee River. Why it has blinds, I don't know... don't the tenders need to see the boats coming?

Members of the West Allis Fire Department take turns in the frigid water while practicing ice rescues today.

This sign is behind a rope barrier at the Archives section of the Harley Museum. I love the warning at the bottom.

After a week of colder-than-normal temps, it was nice to see the sun come out over the weekend. It's supposed to get warmer this week, and some blue skies will be a nice change.

Headed South

With a 21-14 win over the Bears today, the Packers are headed to Dallas and Super Bowl XLV in two weeks. Congrats to the NFC Champion and Good Luck!!!

Tonight was dinner with friends at Botanas, a Mexican restaurant on the south side. The walls of the restaurant are filled with colorful murals of wildlife, like this parrot. The food was good, and we'll be back, perhaps when it's warmer and the patio space is open.

12 On The Field

The Milwaukee news has been (almost) all Packers, (almost) all the time. Going through photos this evening, I came across a folder from a game that I attended in 2006. I was surprised to see a photo of Aaron Rodgers running the huddle, and then I remembered the game. It didn't end well for Rodgers, but he's made quite a showing for himself since then. Go Pack Go!!

Frozen Front

The weather has turned quite cold, with wind chills forecast between -20 and -30. This sent me on a search for photos to fit the frigid temps. Today's photo was taken at the lakefront, with a muted blue sky above the breakwater, and a frozen inner harbor in the foreground.

Rich Prince

Prince Fielder signed a deal this week to play the 2011 season for the Brewers. At $15.5 million, the contract is the richest single-season contract in baseball history for a non-free-agent player in arbitration (whew, that's a lot of qualifiers!!). We booked our tickets for Phoenix and Spring Training this weekend, so it's good to know that we'll see Prince while we're there.

Bears Week 3

Two weeks a year, the Packers and Bears play another round in the longest rivalry in professional football. This year, a third week of Packers-Bears football will be played for the National Football Conference championship and the right to play in the Super Bowl. Stores are looking for any angle they can to capitalize on the big game, and I saw this tombstone-fashioned cake at the grocery store this evening. Go Packers!

Waiting His Turn

This sled dog was rather impatiently riding the bench while waiting to pull a rider at the lakefront. If you're interested in taking a ride, check out the website.

Headed to Mayfair Mall this morning to get some shopping done. Having lunch at the food court, I noticed the lines in the roof supports and skylights.

End Of An Era

The local news outlets have been reporting tonight that the lakefront fireworks on July 3rd will not be supplied by Bartolotta Fireworks company, a local tradition going back for years. Today's photo is from the 2009 show. I will be interested to see how their replacement does, and might have to attend Festa Italiana this year to get my dose of the best fireworks in Milwaukee.

The Giant Slide at the State Fair serves as today's photo. The Fairest of the Fair for 2011 was announced today, and she is Alexis Nickelotti, from Vernon County in southwest Wisconsin.

Before Twilight

A lake-effect snowstorm left us with a nice blanket of fresh powder on the yard, and got me thinking of warmer times and places. The sunset from last fall was just what I needed.

Red Tail

I could see a large lump in a tree down the block, and was pretty sure it was a red-tailed hawk. After about a half hour, I walked over to check him out sunning himself and looking for his next meal. He was kind enough to sit for me for a few photos, not really caring that I was there.

Reaching Out

It's almost sad to rejoice in the fact that the twilight is starting to last past 5:00pm, but sometimes we need to find happiness in the small things. I enjoy the fact that I can get out and take some photos in the waning light, like these bare branches against the grey sky.

Badger Banners

A trip to the state capitol to see the Badger men's hockey team play Canisius last night. The home team won 3-0, and we had great seats to see the action. These banners are just some that hang from the rafters celebrating the championships that various teams have won. Here's to filling them up and adding some more!

Flying Horse

I've always been a fan of certain iconic logos, and the Mobil flying horse is one of my favorites. This large representation is on the wall down at INdustri Cafe.

This is post #900 for Milwaukee Daily Photo, so let's celebrate! A tall glass of cold, delicious Ouisconsing Red Ale from Central Waters Brewing was enjoyed at last night's dinner.

INdustri Cafe

Tonight, we went to a preview opening of
INdustri Cafe. Some locally-sourced comfort food on a cold night was a welcome meal, and we really enjoyed the breadsticks with flavored butters (I particularly enjoyed the Honey Bacon, and my wife liked the Herb). We'll definitely be back. If you're interested, they open this Thursday, January 6th.

The Theme Day for January is Photo of the Year 2010

My favorite photo of last year was taken on the road, while on vacation in Charleston, South Carolina. This iconic pineapple fountain was glistening in the sun on a perfect summer day at the shore.

Balloon Drop

A little late on yesterday's post, as I wanted to get this photo of the end of New Year's Eve. We were out celebrating, and we happened to be right underneath the balloon drop at the stroke of midnight. Wherever you celebrated, I hope you had a safe and enjoyable time. Here's to a better 2011!
