Thief

I believe I have found the reason that the bird feeders in my backyard are emptying so quickly. Now, if I can just figure out how he's getting up there.

Lean On Me

This couple huddles together, enjoying the soft grass and music in the park.

Goldie

This Golden Retriever hangs out in the park while his human watches a concert. For all the commotion around, he was very well behaved.

Shiny

This silver steer is on the Waukesha County Fairgrounds. The outline of the world map is filled with words, but I found them somewhat confusing - convergence, insurance, holistic, and unity are just some of the messages found in the mix.

Medal Of Honor: Milton Matthews

From the fields of Wood Memorial Cemetery, another of the Medal of Honor winners interred there. Private Milton C. Matthews of the 61st Pennsylvania Infantry captured the flag of the 7th Tennessee Infantry at Petersburg, Virginia in April of 1865.

Down

From the third floor at the Marcus Center, looking down through the second floor on the left, at the first floor in the center. The opposing curves and contrast in color between the red floors and white walls make for a complex image.

Wicked Good

Tonight, we went to see Wicked at the Marcus Center. The show was very good, and I was able to snap this photo of the dragon hanging over the set after the cast had taken their bows. Music, sets, lighting, and of course the acting and singing were all fantastic. If you can get a ticket to this retelling and prequel to the "Wizard of Oz" story, make the time and go.

Whirlpool

The very heavy rains in the area today overwhelmed the storm sewers, causing flooding in many places. We were in nearby Waukesha at the County Fair this evening when the rains hit, and I got this photo of the trash collected in the storm drain as the water swirled its way underground.

Stingray

On special occasions, the kite flyers down at the lakefront bring out the big kites and show them off. This rainbow-colored stingray makes a recent appearance, soaring high above the park.

Buzz

This bumblebee was traveling through the garden this afternoon, disappearing into the hosta blossoms for nectar, I suppose. Based on the number of flowers he had to visit, I suspect he was busy for quite a while.

Sinking

I mentioned this house in an earlier post, and here's a glimpse of some of the decor on display there. Partially buried in the front yard, this car looks like it's sinking into the gravel that surrounds it.

Better Than Ice Cream

Ice Cream is good, but in Milwaukee, we love our Frozen Custard. In today's photo, fresh custard flows from the freezer into a catch container at Kopp's location in Greenfield. In addition to the standards, they feature daily special flavors. Today is one of my favorite days of the year, as Kopp's makes Palermo Lemon. Only available a few times a year, it is a treat I look forward to.

Different

I've featured the tower at St. John the Evangelist before, but it's interesting how the color and detail of the building changes with the light and weather.

Juicy

The warm weather and heavy recent rains have kicked the garden into production mode. Today, I harvested the first tomato of the season, and brought it in to finish ripening in the window sill. I think it will be delicious tomorrow!

Skyline

Buildings rise from the city north of downtown, as seen from the lakefront.

Night Off

With the All-Star Game being played in California tonight, Milwaukee's favorite team of mascots has the night off. Last week, they were at Miller Park posing for photos, and I thought that this might make for an interesting angle. Can you name them all, left-to-right?

Two

Tonight, we went to La Fuente restaurant for dinner with some friends to celebrate a couple birthdays. In addition to the human celebrants, Milwaukee Daily Photo marked the passing of another year today - we're two now! To all the regulars, thanks for visiting. If you're new, stick around for a while!

Old German Beer Hall

Located on Old World 3rd Street, the Old German Beer Hall serves up beer and food in the spirit of the Hofbrauhaus in Munich. In addition to the food, there are long common tables in the beer hall and games to entertain. Add an Oompah band, and it's Oktoberfest every day!

Star Wars In Concert

Star Wars In Concert made a stop in Milwaukee this weekend, playing two shows today at the Bradley Center. A full orchestra and choir played music from all six films, and a large video screen played clips from the movies. Lasers and lights added to the atmosphere, and it was a very good show.

Really Fat Tire

Another bike from the menagerie at last weekend's Tour de Fat. This frame was retrofit to accommodate car tires. It looked like it would have been fun to ride, but a little heavy to pedal up a steep hill.

Braves Boys

Ok, that may be enough alliteration for one week. Tonight, I was sentenced to watch the Brewers receive a severe drubbing at the hands of the San Francisco Giants. While walking around inside Miller Park, I came across the Milwaukee Braves Honor Roll. These two lads were reading up on their history, including the team and some of its players.

Bouncy Bike

One of the diversions at the Tour de Fat last weekend was a large fenced-off area with a variety of strange bikes. This one had the wheels mounted off-center so that the frame would move up and down as it traveled along. It looked a little difficult to get started, but once it was going, it was quite a ride.

Big Boy

As a kid in the 70's, we would go to Marc's Big Boy for lunch or dinner. Their famous mascot in his red and white checked overalls would be on the roof or a sign out front, making them easy to find. This statue is on the roof of a garage in Cudahy, next to a yard full of unusual decor. If you have a sudden desire for a Big Boy burger, Kil@Wat restaurant has it on their lunch menu!

Groppi's Market

In nearby Bay View, the G. Groppi Food Market has been in the neighborhood for 100 years. A remnant of the days before supermarkets, the market makes their own sausage from a family recipe, and sells imported meats, wines, and cheeses. The red AMC Pacer makes the photo look 30 years old, but it really was taken just yesterday!

Tour de Fat

The folks from New Belgium brewing came to town today as part of the 2010 Tour de Fat. The bicycle-themed event featuring a five-mile ride, bands, entertainment, food, and of course, New Belgium's fine beers. On the main stage, one lucky soul signed over the title to his car and received a brand new commuter bicycle.

Summer Snack

One new item on this year's menu at Summerfest is a foot-long bratwurst on a pretzel roll, found at the Saz's stand at the Miller Oasis. With sauerkraut and spicy mustard, it was very good, and gone in a hurry.

July Theme Day - Reflections

The Wisconsin Center Building is reflected in the Milwaukee River. I really like the patterns, contrast and color in this.
