Another of my favorites - this one from June 29 2009. Things should return to normal this weekend.

St Joan of Arc Chapel

The replays continue today with this photo of the St. Joan of Arc chapel at Marquette University, originally posted on August 10, 2008.

I'm away taking care of some family business, so I may be running some of my past favorites for a few days. Today's photo was originally featured back in July 2008.

On The Clock

I was at Usinger's this morning to pick up some of their awesome hickory-smoked bacon. While I was there waiting my turn at the counter, I took a few photos of the decor. This wall clock shows three happy Usinger's Elves and a chain of sausage links surrounding the dial. I'm looking forward to eggs and bacon tomorrow morning!

4 July 1965

I'm working on a project scanning some slides today, and when I saw this one, I decided I had to share. This group of Cub Scouts is marching in the 1965 West Allis 4th of July parade. There's just so much to look at here - it really is a time capsule, opened for the first time in a long time. The sign the woman is holding caught my attention - 45 years later, we still have the same thoughts. I guess hope does spring eternal.

Clay (?) roof tiles on one of the buildings in the old Pabst complex. The color and pattern really caught my eye.

Congratulations to Casey McGehee, voted the Brewers' Most Valuable Player this season. Playing in all but 5 games this season, Casey batted .285, with 23 home runs and 104 RBI. Here's to a healthy off-season and a better 2011!

On The Move?

Detail of "The Calling". The sculpture is placed near a park on top of a parking garage that has been closed due to problems with the construction. If the garage is torn down (or the park removed), there's probably a chance that the sculpture will have to be moved. I'm sure that will make some people happy.

American Ghost Stories

In addition to the Fall Chrysanthemum Show, the Mitchell Park Domes are hosting a special display in the Show Dome called "American Ghost Stories". Special decor reminiscent of spooky tales is scattered amongst the plants and flowers.

In The Pink

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so many sports organizations are using the month as an opportunity to wear pink and raise money to support the cause. At the football game yesterday, Carroll University was wearing pink socks, towels, and sweatbands.

Saturday's Heroes

On a beautiful fall afternoon, we took a ride to Carroll University in Waukesha to watch the Pioneers (in blue) play the St. Norbert Green Knights. The Knights prevailed, 30-6, and it was a great day for a football game.

Haunted Yard

Bats and boogeymen, ghosts and goblins, and all things Halloween decorate this yard just off 84th Street near State Fair Park. There is a lot to look at and laugh at, and the lights make it a spectacle to enjoy.

Big Red Church

The detail in the brickwork at Calvary Church on Wisconsin Avenue shows attention to detail and creative use of materials, resulting in a beautiful building.

Home of the Ultimate

This building on the corner of Knapp and Water is now home to the Ultimate Milwaukee Cheeseburger, after AJ Bomber's restaurant won the competition on Travel Channel's Food Wars, beating Sobelman's. I like them both, for different reasons, and would find it hard to pick one over the other.

The drawbridges over the Milwaukee River need to be light enough to lift easily, but strong enough to handle the traffic passing over them. The honeycomb steel provides both, and also affords that unusual view looking through from above when something passes underneath.

Hang In There

The last few leaves cling to a branch overhanging the Kinnickinnic River, while others float downstream after giving into nature's rules.

Critters do the darndest things sometimes. This juvenile squirrel managed to scale a concrete wall and metal fence in a parking garage, and was trying to figure out how to get to the other side.

Empty Bowls

Today was the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser at MATC in Oak Creek. The fundraiser set a record for the event, collecting over $45,000 to help fight hunger in the area. For $20, attendees get to choose a bowl and try soups and bread from dozens of local businesses.

Medal of Honor - Winthrop Putnam

Today's photo is another in the collection of Medal of Honor winners interred at Wood National Cemetery. Corporal Winthrop Putnam was a member of the 77th Illinois Infantry. At the Battle of Vicksburg, he and other soldiers carried a cannon by hand and fired it into a fortification.

Man At Work

Yesterday's photo was delayed by a lack of internet access, so I had to get home early today to wait for the cable company to show up and diagnose the problem. A bad connector on the pole was found and replaced, and all is better today.

10.06.10 - Ghostly

The recent full moon gave me the opportunity to learn more about photographing this bright heavenly body, and this photo got my attention with the glow from the trees and clouds.

The thickening carpet of leaves begins to engulf the lawn. The colors are supposed to peak this weekend, and then the leaves will really start to fall.

The media outlets are reporting today that the Brewers have let manager Ken Macha go. While I agree that the team did not perform well this season, I don't know that it's his fault. The fates of sports are fickle, however, and someone must take the blame.

The trees are well into the process of turning. Soon, it will be time to rake up all the leaves and get them to the curb for collection. I like the colors, but I hate raking.

The fall weather has brought changes to sky, quickly alternating between sunny skies and gloomy ones. In between, the clouds have been rather dramatic, like these down at the lakefront.

October Theme Day - Graffiti

The October Theme Day is Graffiti

Click here to view thumbnails for all participants

This railroad bridge just off near the Third Ward attracts graffiti like many others, but I was attracted by the structure and condition of the original paint. Looking through photos for today's theme, I noticed the small tag at the bottom, and decided that in this case, less was more.
