It was announced a few weeks ago that the Harry W. Schwartz Bookshops will be closing at the end of March. For over 75 years, the shops have been a part of the community. The good news, if there is any, is that two of the shops will stay open under new identities, run by the current store managers.

When I saw Milwaukee on the portal I thought for sure this was going to be a pub. Great pic!!!
Cheers!

I've been following your photo postings from Arkansas ever since my sister put me onto you because she knew I was homesick. It started (for me) with your shot of Southgate a long, long time ago. You're partly responsible for my decision to move back to Milwaukee as soon as my house sells because you've reminded me of all the wonderful things in the city. And I sincerely hope Schwartz is still there in some incarnation when I get back!
Carolsue, that's quite a comment. Good luck with the sale of your house... you realize that's it's winter here, right? :)

We are so sad to see them go, but at least you've captured a nice snapshot of literary Americana.
