First Day of Autumn

While the trees have not yet turning on our street, and the weather is not quite what I would consider "fall-like", it nonetheless is the first day of autumn. The Black Walnut tree across the alley has been dropping nuts for a couple weeks now, and the squirrels are having a field day eating and storing them for the winter. I caught this one as was busy dining in the maple tree in our front yard.

We don't have squirrels in Tasmania, but we do think they are lovely. But I'm wondering who people who are surrounded by them feel. Are they considered pests?

I know that plenty of Australians who don't like possums, but vistors reckon they're great.

Squirrels usually keep to themselves, but they can do quite a bit of yard damage when storing or retreiving food that they have buried.
