Named after former Mayor Daniel Hoan, the bridge that bears his name connects I-794 from downtown to the South side. Carrying traffic over the Milwaukee River since 1977, the bridge underwent extensive repairs when support beams failed, allowing the bridge deck to sag. Recent reports show that the state Department of Transportation is studying the possible demolition of the bridge, replacing it with a number of smaller bridges across the river.
