Founded in 1844 (four years before Wisconsin achieved statehood), the Pabst Brewery was founded in Milwaukee. The brewery thrived and grew on this site downtown, and at one time was the largest brewery in the country. While the beer still exists (it is brewed and packaged at the Miller brewery), the buildings of this once great company have been abandoned and fell into disrepair. In recent years, the 20-acre plot has been purchased by a developer, and it is being redeveloped into a mixed-use space called The Brewery.
